Sadly, most of the US is currently in the throes of Fake Fall. Let me say it: 75-degree temperatures are not the vibe at the pumpkin patch, and the first PSL of the season should not have to be iced! Yet real winter will be here sooner than you think, along with a massive dip in temperatures, waning sunlight, and the potential for inclement weather. Amazon’s October Prime Day is your last chance to get ahead and grab all the cold-weather gear you’ll need to stay warm for cheap, from slippers and blankets to thermostats and fire pits.

Dreo
Whole Room Heater 714
Don’t be fooled by this Dreo’s size—it’s tempting to think a tower-style space heater produces more warmth, but don’t forget that heat rises, so a floor heater is going to be just as effective. In fact, this little guy outperformed all other models we tested when it came to heating a room quickly and quietly, and all with necessary safety features like tip-over protection and auto-shutoff.
An Electric Blanket We Love
Electric blankets have come a long way since the scratchy fire hazards of yore. We love just about everything from Bedsure (especially its sheets), and this minky-soft heated blanket is no exception. A favorite in our guide to the Best Electric Blankets, this one is reversible and has a handy Preheating mode to get warm quickly.
A Great Deal on Luxe Flannel Sheets
Even though they were an Honorable Mention in our guide to the Best Flannel Sheets, these organic sheets from high-end California brand Coyuchi (repped by Naomi Watts—you may have seen the commercials with her sleeping in a field) won accolades from reviewer Nena Farrell.
A Cozy Candle for Less
Yankee Candle
Large Jar Scented Candle
Yankee Candle is not featured in our guide to the Best Scented Candles. In fact, some of my coworkers may have even gone so far as to call this brand cheugy. But last month I was at a mall, and I happened to walk by a Yankee Candle store, and I am here to defend Yankee Candle’s dignity. I bought not one but three candles that day, and I will tell you the ’90s favorite has still got it. However, I also paid way more than this Prime Day sale price for my candles, so don’t make the same mistake.
A Foot Heater for Your Office
This unassuming little Lasko was the one heater reviewer Matthew Korfhage kept reaching for long after he finished testing space heaters for his guide. It’s like living inside a hair dryer, he says, and I quote, makes you feel warm and lovely “from your heart-cockles to your cankles.”
Giftable Slippers
Our favorite slippers for bedtime, the TSA line, or any time, these Cozy Earth slippers feel like cotton balls yet have a sturdy rubber sole so they can be worn to get the mail or bring in the trash. They’re made from natural sheepskin, so they won’t get sweaty and stinky if you or your giftee end up wearing them for days at a time (no judgment).
If You Have to Be Outside
Photograph: Martin Cizmar
Maybe your family really likes s’mores, or drinking beers with the neighbors, or just enjoying the night sky. You might not want to be outside, but if you must be, you may as well stay warm. If your only experience with fire pits is being smoked out while camping or moving your chair strategically around a beach bonfire, it’s time you tried a smokeless fire pit. They aren’t truly smokeless, but they do significantly reduce smoke via what Solo Stove calls “secondary burn.” This not only makes the experience more pleasant for you, it also means fewer pissed off neighbors.
A Smart Thermostat for $44 Off
Instead of your household arguing over who turned the thermostat up or down and when, you can place this smart thermostat and its built-in temperature gauge in any room—preferably that of the biggest complainer. The thermostat will then help your HVAC system get just that room to the perfect temperature. The Nest is not only simple to set up and use, its app will make suggestions as it learns schedules over time. Also note you do not need a Nest ecosystem to use this—it will work independently and is compatible with most HVAC systems.
